In a timely response to the destruction caused by a magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Mindanao, the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has announced a housing loan moratorium. Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling made the announcement on June 10, emphasizing the urgency of government assistance following the disaster.
Government Assistance Mobilized Following Earthquake
The directive forms part of the Marcos Jr. administration's whole-of-government response, following the strong earthquake that reportedly killed dozens of people.

The moratorium targets qualified beneficiaries affected by the quake and aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to mobilize immediate aid. Key shelter agencies, including the Pag-IBIG Fund and the National Housing Authority (NHA), are set to announce detailed guidelines for the moratorium's implementation.
In addition to the moratorium, mobile assistance units from the Pag-IBIG Fund are already operational in General Santos City and Dipolog City, providing support to affected members. NHA teams are also conducting ground assessments to facilitate emergency shelter assistance.
To enhance preparedness, Aliling has instructed the activation of shelter clusters in coordination with local government units, the Office of Civil Defense, and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
The DHSUD Regional Office XII has been tasked with conducting rapid assessments in communities impacted by the earthquake, particularly in areas declared under a state of calamity. This coordinated effort aims to promptly address housing needs for families affected by the disaster.
In a related initiative, the Senate has pledged one month's salary for Mindanao earthquake victims, demonstrating solidarity and support for those affected by the disaster.
