The Senate majority bloc announced on June 9, 2026, that its members will collectively donate their one-month salaries to assist families affected by the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Mindanao.

Support for Quake Victims

While this is a small contribution, we hope our colleagues in the minority will join us in this effort. After all, we are senators of all Filipino people.

Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri
  • At least 37 confirmed deaths, 456 injuries, and four missing persons reported.
  • 17,689 families, or 77,186 individuals, affected by the earthquake.
  • 5,343 families, approximately 19,365 people, currently in evacuation centers.

The senators emphasized that their donations are aimed at addressing immediate needs such as food, clean water, medicine, and temporary shelter for those impacted by the quake.

In addition to their appeal to minority senators, the majority bloc is encouraging all Filipinos who can help to contribute to the relief efforts.

Diego Mariano, deputy spokesperson for the Office of Civil Defense, reported that as of Tuesday morning, the earthquake had caused significant casualties and displacement.
