The Philippine government has enacted a housing loan moratorium for victims of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Mindanao, as announced by Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling.

This initiative aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to mobilize immediate assistance in quake-affected regions.

Comprehensive Support for Quake Victims

The directive forms part of the Marcos Jr. administration's whole-of-government response, following the strong earthquake that reportedly killed dozens of people.

In addition to the moratorium, the Pag-IBIG Fund and National Housing Authority (NHA) have dispatched teams to provide urgent support for those affected.

Mobile branches from Pag-IBIG are operating in General Santos City and Dipolog City to assist members, while NHA teams are assessing damage for emergency shelter assistance.

Aliling has also instructed regional offices to activate shelter clusters, ensuring close collaboration with local government units and disaster response agencies.

These actions are aimed at quickly addressing the housing needs of families in areas declared under a state of calamity.

We continue to coordinate with local governments and other government agencies to ensure that we promptly address the needs of families affected by the earthquake, particularly in terms of housing, Aliling emphasized the importance of a coordinated approach to effectively manage the aftermath of the quake.
