The Department of Transportation (DoTr) is optimistic about completing a streamlined list of 30 flagship projects. This confidence comes in light of a reduced budget allocated under the proposed 2027 National Expenditure Program (NEP).
Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Z. Lopez shared that the DoTr has been allocated P300.96 billion, significantly less than the P624.48 billion initially sought to fund 179 projects.
Among the funded projects, only four rail initiatives will receive support, notably excluding major projects like the Mindanao Railway and Metro Rail Transit Line 4.
Next week, DoTr plans to engage potential funders for the Mindanao Railway, a project that was previously expected to benefit from Chinese development assistance.
The agency is also set to commence operations of the MRT-7 by the second quarter of next year, a significant milestone for the public transport sector.

Despite the budget constraints, the DoTr remains committed to enhancing aviation communications, navigation, and air traffic management systems.
