Once it enters PAR, Jangmi will be assigned the local name Domeng. PAGASA forecasts that the storm could reach typhoon status by Saturday, May 30.
The weather bureau noted that while Jangmi is less likely to make landfall in the Philippines, its outer bands may still affect extreme Northern Luzon, particularly the Batanes-Babuyan Islands region, prompting possible Signal No. 1 warnings.
Additionally, the storm's influence could enhance the southwest monsoon starting Saturday, further impacting weather conditions across the country.
Meanwhile, scattered rain and thunderstorms are already being reported in various regions, including Palawan and Mindanao, due to the prevailing southwesterly windflow.
As the rainy season typically commences in late May or early June, PAGASA is expected to make an official announcement soon.
