The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that a low-pressure area (LPA) developed into Tropical Depression Luis on August 1, 2026.
This marks the Philippines' 12th tropical cyclone of the year and the first for the month of August.
As of Saturday evening, Luis was situated 360 kilometers east of Daet, Camarines Norte, and moving west at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour.

PAGASA has issued Signal No. 1 for several areas in Southern Luzon, indicating strong winds are expected.
Forecasts suggest that Luis could strengthen into a tropical storm by August 3, while its trajectory may potentially lead it toward Northern or Central Luzon.
Heavy rainfall between 50 to 100 millimeters is anticipated in Isabela, Quirino, and Aurora, raising concerns for flooding and landslides.
Residents in affected areas should remain vigilant and prepare for possible impacts from heavy rains and strong winds.
