The southwest monsoon is forecasted to intensify once more during the third week of August, bringing with it the potential for heavy rainfall across various provinces in the Philippines. PAGASA issued this warning on Sunday, August 16, highlighting the significant impacts expected on regional weather patterns.

From Sunday, August 16, to Monday, August 17, several northern provinces are anticipated to face moderate to heavy rain. PAGASA has particularly noted these areas: - **Ilocos Sur** - **La Union** - **Pangasinan** - **Benguet** - **Zambales** Continuing into the week, the following forecast suggests that the rainfall will persist: - **August 17-18**: Additional rainfall affecting **Bataan**, **Cavite**, **Batangas**, **Occidental Mindoro**, and **Antique**. - **August 18-19**: Further rain is expected in the same regions, including **Tarlac** and **Pampanga**.

Widespread Effects and Precautions

As the southwest monsoon affects different locations, PAGASA has warned that floods and landslides are possible, especially in areas experiencing significant rainfall. Metro Manila and additional provinces like **Rizal** and **Laguna** are also forecasted to see rain and thunderstorms.

The monsoon may bring adverse conditions to millions of residents, especially in already vulnerable regions.

Currently, two low-pressure areas (LPAs) are being monitored. The first LPA has moved away from the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), while a second, which formed on August 16, has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression shortly. However, these disturbances could still enhance the southwest monsoon.

This year's monsoon season has already significantly impacted the country, with a reported death toll of 23 due to recent weather disturbances, affecting nearly 4.87 million people. The economic toll is also substantial, with damage to infrastructure estimated at P3.4 billion and agricultural losses reaching over P689 million.
