A low pressure area (LPA) located 180 kilometers west of Bacnotan, La Union, is projected to evolve into a tropical depression within 24 hours, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Impending Rainfall and Flood Risks
As the LPA moves eastward, it is expected to bring significant rainfall to several regions, particularly the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon.
Flooding and landslides are concerns in these areas as intense rains are anticipated.
If the LPA develops into a tropical depression, it will be named Maymay, marking the Philippines' 13th tropical cyclone of the year.

Additionally, the southwest monsoon, or *habagat*, is expected to enhance rainfall in Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and parts of Western Visayas.
As the situation develops, residents in affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions, especially with the potential for heavy rain from both the LPA and the southwest monsoon.
Typhoon Dolphin, located 2,095 kilometers east-northeast of Northern Luzon, may also impact the weather systems, as it is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon starting August 6.
With the Philippines already experiencing an active typhoon season, the weather bureau continues to monitor developments closely.
