Heavy monsoon rains are set to impact Metro Manila and various parts of Luzon, heightening the threat of flooding and landslides, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Flooding and Landslide Risks Escalate
Rainfall could cause flooding in urbanized and low-lying areas and communities near rivers, while landslides were possible in susceptible areas.

The orange heavy rainfall alert indicates substantial rain accumulation, particularly in Bataan, while a yellow warning has been issued for Metro Manila and nearby provinces, including Cavite and Rizal.
Occidental Mindoro could face 100 to 200 millimeters of rain, while areas like Zambales and Bataan may receive between 50 to 100 millimeters.
Pagasa is also keeping an eye on a tropical depression located 1,685 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon. This system has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour.
As of now, the tropical depression is moving northward at 35 kilometers per hour, with its current trajectory suggesting a low likelihood of entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) immediately.
However, it may re-enter Pagasa's monitoring area later today and is expected to officially enter the PAR by Sunday.
Rainfall forecasts for Sunday predict 50 to 100 millimeters over several provinces, including Occidental Mindoro and Batangas.
Currently, there are no gale warnings in effect for Philippine coastal waters.
