The Philippine National Police (PNP) has reported 26 deaths resulting from the combined effects of Tropical Cyclones Luis and Maymay, as well as the enhanced southwest monsoon, known as habagat.
Fatalities Concentrated in Northern Luzon
The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) bore the brunt of the fatalities, with 16 recorded deaths, primarily due to landslides. Baguio City accounted for 10 of these deaths, while three each were reported in Atok and La Trinidad, Benguet.
In addition to these, La Union and Alaminos in Pangasinan recorded two deaths from electrocution and drowning, respectively. A police officer also drowned in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
Further incidents included three deaths from rockfalls in Rizal and Batangas, alongside additional drownings in Batangas City and Binangonan.
Two individuals are reported missing in Calabarzon, and 15 others sustained injuries across the affected regions.
Police Mobilization and Community Support
In response to the disasters, the PNP deployed over 11,000 personnel to assist with rescue, search, and retrieval operations. They also ensured security in evacuation centers, where 17,452 families, comprising 69,108 individuals, are currently sheltered.
Our responsibility does not end with search and rescue operations. We will remain engaged in the recovery phase by maintaining security, supporting relief efforts, and helping communities recover from the effects of the disaster.
