Mike confirmed on May 12 that the press conference aims to clarify Edu's position on the impeachment matter.
Anunsyo ng Press Conference
In his statement, Mike expressed, “We will have a press conference, and hopefully Edu Rama will be with us. We will be putting all that ought to be said.”
Edu Rama was among the lawmakers who remained silent during the House's recent nominal vote concerning the impeachment articles against the Vice President.
While Edu and several others did not announce their votes, four Cebu representatives opposed the impeachment. House records indicate that a total of 257 lawmakers supported the complaint, well above the required threshold for escalation to the Senate.
Konteksto ng Politika
The impeachment proceedings have heightened the scrutiny on Cebu's political dynamics, particularly among those aligned with the Duterte administration. Mike Rama, a prominent supporter of the Duterte family, has increasingly positioned himself as a leading voice of opposition in the Visayas.
“Hindi natin kayang hindi makilahok. Hindi tayo pwedeng manahimik lang,” sinabi ni Mike sa isang kamakailang pagtitipon, hinihimok ang kanyang mga tagasuporta na makilahok sa mga pambansang isyu.
Mike Rama
The former mayor has been vocal against what he perceives as the politicization of the impeachment process, rallying support for Vice President amid ongoing political tensions.
Mga Kontrobersiya at Akusasyon
The impeachment vote has also sparked controversy, including allegations against Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro for allegedly pressuring lawmakers to support the complaint. Baricuatro has denied these claims, which have been strongly rebutted by her daughter.
As the political landscape evolves, all eyes will be on the upcoming press conference and the implications of Edu Rama's silence during such a pivotal vote.
