President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Giovanni 'Banoy' Lopez as the new head of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), succeeding Vince Dizon.
Lopez's extensive background in the Department of Transportation (DOTr) positions him to tackle pressing issues within the DPWH, which has faced significant corruption allegations.
A Background in Transportation
Before this appointment, Lopez spent nearly a decade in various roles at the DOTr, including assistant secretary for procurement and project implementation.
In 2021, he was named undersecretary for finance and chief of staff. Lopez also served as executive director of the Land Transportation Office in 2022.
Lopez will be tasked to institutionalize reforms in the DPWH, which has been marred by corruption issues.
