In a statement marking the 10th anniversary of the ruling, the NMC urged Filipinos to unite in their commitment to international law and the protection of national maritime interests.
The council highlighted that the ruling is not merely a legal triumph but a symbol of the collective will of the Filipino people.
During the anniversary celebrations, Philippine officials participated in a National Peace Walk at the Quirino Grandstand, reaffirming their commitment to the ruling which invalidated China’s claims in the South China Sea.
Leading figures included Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. and top military officials, signaling a robust governmental stance on preserving the nation’s sovereignty.
The NMC reiterated the importance of the ruling, stating it is essential for the livelihoods of fisherfolk and coastal communities who rely on healthy seas and sustainable resources.
The council also acknowledged the dedication of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other maritime agencies in protecting the nation's maritime domain.
As tensions continue in the region, the NMC maintains that the Philippines will abide by international law and advocate for peaceful resolution of disputes.
