The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has indefinitely suspended Abdulraof Macacua from his dual role as the Interim Chief Minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and military chief of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF).
Reasons Behind the Suspension
According to MILF’s Central Committee, the suspension stems from what they describe as 'clear acts of defiance and insubordination' against their leadership. Macacua is accused of making decisions contrary to the political line established by the MILF.
The Central Committee cited clear acts of defiance and insubordination against the MILF Central Committee.
MILF Central Committee
- Macacua allegedly replaced key personnel without consulting the Central Committee.
- His unilateral political maneuvers have raised tensions within the organization.
Tensions escalated when Macacua reportedly sidelined a list of nominees mandated by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) in favor of his allies. The MILF's resolution emphasizes that major decisions impacting BARMM must involve consultation with the organization.
Macacua's actions reportedly include appointing non-MILF nominees to regional positions, which has drawn ire from the Central Committee. They have called for adherence to their directives and maintained unity within their ranks.
Macacua's Response
In response to his suspension, Macacua attributed it to two key issues: his decision to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming elections and not adhering to the Chairman's request regarding personnel changes.
He expressed his commitment to fairness in governance, asserting that his independent candidacy does not compromise his role as Chief Minister. He plans to further clarify his position on these matters in the future.
Macacua's camp indicated that the suspension comes as he aims to implement reforms against corruption and inefficiency within the BARMM government. His leadership had focused on completing infrastructure projects and addressing issues of graft.
