The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has acknowledged the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for its role in ensuring a peaceful environment during the recent Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections.

Collaboration Leads to Successful Elections

Member of Parliament Abdullah Macapaar, known as Commander Bravo, expressed gratitude to NBI Director Melvin Matibag in a letter dated September 13, 2026.

When we sought to be heard, you chose to listen and to engage. Your presence in Mindanao helped bridge differences, clarify concerns, and open the way for greater understanding and cooperation.

Abdullah Macapaar, MILF Member of Parliament

Macapaar highlighted the NBI's willingness to address MILF concerns, which facilitated meaningful dialogues with other stakeholders, including the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

The NBI's involvement was also mentioned in a letter from Engr. Mohajirin Ali, the secretary general of the MILF’s United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP), who thanked Matibag for the opportunity to discuss local developments.

NBI's Role in Peace Dialogues

According to Matibag, the NBI's visit on September 10 was initiated to conduct peace dialogues and coordination meetings aimed at fostering collaboration.

The engagement stemmed from a request by the MILF and other stakeholders for the NBI to serve as an intermediary between the parties—to help patch up differences, bridge gaps, and serve as a catalyst for collaboration toward a peaceful election.

This collaboration marks a significant moment in the ongoing peace process in Mindanao, illustrating how dialogue can lead to stability in a region historically plagued by conflict.
