In a move to bolster security for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) elections, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has approved the deputation of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP). This decision comes ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for September 14.
Marcos signed Memorandum Order No. 48 on July 1, which allows these agencies to collaborate with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to maintain order and security during the electoral process. The memorandum was made public on July 16.

Under Article IX-C, Section 2(4) of the 1987 Constitution, the Comelec can deputize law enforcement agencies with the president's approval. This legal provision aims to facilitate a safe electoral environment, reflecting the government's commitment to uphold democratic processes.
