The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has solidified its political landscape with 46 Members of Parliament endorsing a coalition. This surpasses the initial expectation of 41, marking a vital step towards establishing a stable government.
A Focus on Unity Post-Elections
After the formal assumption of the Government of the Day, we will pursue a program for the unity of all Bangsamoro.
Abdulraof Macacua, Interim Chief Minister
In a press briefing held in Davao City, Macacua outlined the coalition's vision. He stressed the need for a government that serves all communities and transcends political affiliations.
- 46 MPs signed coalition documents
- Coalition exceeds 41-seat majority threshold
Macacua highlighted that the coalition represents a broad spectrum of the region, recognizing the necessity for leaders to collaborate despite past electoral divisions.
The formation of this coalition is particularly significant as BARMM transitions from an interim administration to a fully elected parliamentary government. The new parliament, elected on September 14, will officially convene on October 30, when members will assume their roles.
The Bangsamoro Federalist Party (BFP), under Macacua's leadership, emerged as the largest party in the elections, securing 31 seats out of the 80-member parliament. Other parties, including the United Bangsamoro Justice Party and the BARMM Grand Coalition, also gained notable representation.
Macacua expressed gratitude to the 46 lawmakers for their commitment to inclusivity and collaboration. He emphasized the coalition's readiness to respond to the needs of all Bangsamoro communities.
