The Philippine Navy officially welcomed its latest offshore patrol vessel, the future BRP Rajah Lakandula (PS21), during a ceremony on May 8 at the Naval Operating Base in Subic, Zambales.
The vessel arrived in the Philippines on May 4 as part of the Navy's modernization and capability enhancement initiatives. A formal commissioning date has yet to be announced.
The addition of the future BRP Rajah Lakandula aims to strengthen maritime security and territorial defense, enhancing the Navy's operational capabilities in safeguarding the country's waters.
Significance of the Vessel's Name
Vice Admiral Caesar Bernard Valencia, the superintendent of the Philippine Military Academy, emphasized the importance of the vessel's namesake during the ceremony. Rajah Lakandula, a historical figure from the pre-colonial era, is celebrated for his leadership and resistance.
