Tesla reported a remarkable 25% increase in global auto sales for the second quarter of 2026, totaling 480,126 vehicles delivered.

This surge comes amid historically high gasoline prices, partly due to geopolitical tensions from the US-Iran war.

Demand for Electric Vehicles Remains Strong

The bulk of Tesla’s sales were driven by the Model 3 sedan and Model Y sport utility vehicle, with less than 3% attributed to other models, including the anticipated Cybertruck.

Prior to the results, Deutsche Bank estimated sales would reach 416,000, highlighting strong growth in Europe and China despite declining numbers in North America.

Through the end of May, there were 89,180 new Tesla car registrations in the EU, up 77.3 percent from the year-ago period.

Tesla’s resurgence in Europe is significant, especially following a period where political controversies surrounding CEO Elon Musk affected consumer sentiment.

Musk has recently shifted focus towards innovations in robotics and AI, alongside SpaceX initiatives, which has attracted criticism regarding Tesla’s vehicle lineup refresh.

  • 25% increase from Q2 2025
  • Less than 3% from other models

Despite Tesla's success, competitors are facing challenges. Ford reported a 10% drop in US auto sales, while General Motors saw declines in its leading EV models.

The F-150 pickup truck sales fell by 11% to 197,900 units, attributed to production retiming and supply chain issues.

Following the announcement, Tesla’s stock fell by 7.1%, while Ford’s shares dropped 2.0%.
