As of May 8, 2026, the Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) has implemented a three-month moratorium on electricity disconnections. This decision follows an official directive from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) aimed at assisting consumers amid a regional energy crisis.
The suspension will be in effect from May through July 2026. It applies to both residential and non-residential customers, including local businesses, allowing them to manage unpaid bills without the immediate threat of disconnection.
However, the moratorium is not retroactive. Customers with outstanding bills from November 2024 to April 2026 are still subject to disconnection under existing policies.
New Payment Flexibility Offered
In addition to the disconnection freeze, Negros Power is introducing flexible payment options for customers consuming 200 kilowatt-hours (kWh) or less monthly. These customers can apply for staggered or deferred payment arrangements.
Negros Power encourages consumers to directly discuss their payment plans and account status with the company. All applications for installment payments will undergo a thorough evaluation process.
Advice for Consumers
While the temporary suspension provides crucial financial relief, Negros Power urges customers who can afford to continue paying their bills to do so. Accumulating unpaid balances during this period could lead to significant debts.
The utility warns that failure to settle bills on or before the due date after the grace period may result in service interruptions once the deferment concludes in August.
