A United Airlines Boeing 767 struck a lamppost and a delivery truck while landing at Newark Liberty International Airport on May 3. The aircraft, arriving from Venice, Italy, managed to land safely despite the incident.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that the plane sustained minor damage during the mishap, which occurred around 2 p.m. local time.
No injuries were reported among the 221 passengers and 10 crew members onboard. However, the truck driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
According to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the collision resulted in damage to both the lamppost and the truck traveling on the New Jersey Turnpike.
Chuck Paterakis, a senior vice president at H&S Bakery, confirmed that the truck was largely unharmed, although the plane's wheel struck the driver's side window, causing small cuts to the driver.
In response to the incident, United Airlines announced plans for a thorough flight safety investigation and removed the crew from service.
New Jersey State Police and Boeing have yet to provide comments regarding the incident.
