North Korea has vehemently rejected accusations made by the United States regarding a supposed cyber threat, branding the claims as a fabricated narrative intended to support America's hostile stance. This assertion came from a spokesperson for North Korea's foreign ministry on May 3.
According to state media KCNA, the spokesperson claimed the US is spreading misinformation about a 'non-existent' cyber threat from Pyongyang, labeling these accusations as 'absurd slander' aimed at damaging the country's reputation.
In response to these allegations, North Korea vowed to implement necessary measures to safeguard its state interests and protect its citizens' rights in cyberspace.
US officials have frequently accused North Korea of engaging in cyber activities that include hacking, cryptocurrency theft, and employing overseas IT workers to fund its weapons programs. In March, the US Treasury imposed sanctions on individuals and entities associated with North Korean IT operations.
The US government maintains that these cyber schemes are ongoing and are a significant threat to global security, with the Justice Department and FBI warning that North Korean cyber groups could jeopardize governments, businesses, and vital infrastructure worldwide.
