Lieutenant Colonel Pierre de Bouvier reported that the metal structure of the market had partially collapsed, leaving no trace of the once-bustling venue. The market was named after the red uniforms worn by orphans at a nearby hospital until 1772.
Ariel Weil, the local mayor, reassured the public that the fire was contained and had not spread to neighboring buildings. 'The worst has been avoided,' he stated, emphasizing the swift response of emergency services.
The loss of Marche Couvert des Enfants Rouges, which ranked fifth in Food & Wine's list of top street food destinations, highlights the fragility of historical culinary sites amid modern challenges.
