A bulk carrier was set ablaze on Sunday after it was hit by an unidentified projectile off the coast of Qatar. The British military reported that the incident took place 23 nautical miles northeast of Doha.

According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Centre (UKMTO), the fire on the vessel was minor and quickly extinguished. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

Recent Attacks in the Region

This attack is part of a series of incidents targeting vessels in the Persian Gulf. Tensions have escalated following a ceasefire between the United States and Iran.

Just days prior, the US military engaged two Iranian oil tankers, claiming they attempted to breach a blockade imposed on Iran's ports.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard navy warned that any further attacks on Iranian vessels would result in a heavy response against US bases in the area.

US President Donald Trump has threatened to escalate military action unless Iran agrees to terms regarding its nuclear program and the reopening of critical shipping routes.
