Rescue operations are underway in Indonesia as more than 600 personnel search for 129 individuals still unaccounted for following the capsizing of the Virgo Transport 8 in the Java Sea on September 13. The vessel was carrying 243 passengers when it went under due to severe weather conditions.
The Ongoing Search Efforts
Authorities have confirmed that six deaths have been reported, with 108 people successfully rescued. I Putu Sudayana, head of the Banjarmasin rescue agency, stated that the teams are deploying 12 ships in their efforts to locate the missing.
We have continued the search for the missing since early in the morning. We are deploying 622 personnel and around 12 ships.
