Tropical Storm Pilandok has officially exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of September 3, 2026. The storm was recorded at 4:30 AM, located approximately 1,050 kilometers northeast of Northern Luzon.
Despite its departure, the effects of the southwest monsoon persist, with PAGASA warning of moderate to heavy rainfall across several provinces in Luzon over the next 72 hours.
Rainfall Forecast and Areas Affected
Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant as flooding and landslide risks continue. The southwest monsoon is also causing strong to gale-force gusts across most of Luzon and parts of the Visayas.
Current and Future Weather Patterns
While Pilandok is expected to maintain its tropical storm status as it moves toward southern Japan, it is projected to remain stationary for a few days due to influence from a high-pressure area.
PAGASA is also keeping an eye on another tropical storm, Obet, and a low-pressure area outside PAR. While Obet is moving away from PAR, it too has been enhancing the southwest monsoon.
Historically, the Philippines experiences an average of 20 tropical cyclones each year. The presence of Pilandok marks the 16th tropical cyclone for this year, exceeding forecasts for August.
