Taal Volcano's seismic activity has intensified following a minor phreatic eruption on Friday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
In its latest bulletin, Phivolcs reported nine volcanic earthquakes and four tremors lasting one to two minutes within a 24-hour period.
The agency noted a notable increase in seismic events, with a total of 22 volcanic earthquakes logged from May 5 to 7, compared to 20 on May 4.
On Friday at 4:46 a.m., Taal experienced a steam-driven eruption, which lasted six minutes and produced a plume that reached approximately 300 meters high.
Phivolcs explained that volcanic earthquakes are indicative of magma-related processes beneath the volcano, while tremors represent low-frequency seismic signals.
Despite recent activities, the agency reassured that the current data suggests no immediate threat of a magmatic eruption.
Last month, Taal recorded nine minor eruptive events, including four phreatomagmatic eruptions. The volcano also emitted a weak sulfur dioxide output.
Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 1, which signifies abnormal activity. Phivolcs has reiterated that access to Taal Volcano Island and surrounding areas is strictly prohibited.
