The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has raised concerns over extreme heat levels in Cavite City and Mulanay, Quezon.

In a bulletin released on Sunday evening, Pagasa forecasted that the heat index in Cavite City could reach 41°C on May 4 and 42°C on May 5.

This follows a previous peak of 45°C recorded on April 27.

For Mulanay, residents should prepare for a heat index of 40°C on Monday and 41°C on Tuesday.

Understanding Heat Index Levels

The heat index measures the discomfort caused by temperature and humidity. Pagasa categorizes heat levels as follows: 'caution' (27°C to 32°C), 'extreme caution' (33°C to 41°C), 'danger' (42°C to 51°C), and 'extreme danger' (52°C and above).

Typically, the hottest conditions are recorded between midday and late afternoon.

Authorities advise the public to minimize outdoor activities during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and avoid leaving children or pets in vehicles.

They also recommend checking on vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions.
