A significant landslide in Sitio Alyeng, Barangay Sapu Masla, Malapatan, Sarangani, has led officials to recommend the evacuation of 54 homes and the Alyeng Indigenous Peoples (IP) School.
Assessment Reveals Multiple Hazards
The landslide was identified during a post-disaster needs assessment carried out using drone technology. Teams from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), Department of Education, and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) conducted inspections to evaluate damages.
The assessment revealed extensive tension cracks that indicate ground movement, posing serious risks to nearby residences and the school.

The MGB XII linked the landslide activity to the Magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck in June, with subsequent southwest monsoon rains exacerbating the situation due to Severe Tropical Storm Inday and Typhoon Kiyapo.
