Imus City reported a dangerously high heat index of 44.9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
Local authorities are urging residents to take essential precautions against heat-related illnesses. The Imus City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) issued a public advisory warning of risks such as heat cramps and heat exhaustion.
The advisory noted that prolonged exposure to such extreme temperatures could lead to severe health issues. Earlier readings indicated a heat index of 42.7°C around noon and 41.9°C at 11 a.m.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), heat index levels between 42°C and 51°C fall under the 'danger' category. This categorization signifies the significant discomfort experienced due to the combined effects of high temperature and humidity.
The DRRMO recommends wearing light-colored, loose-fitting clothing made from natural fibers like cotton to combat overheating. They also advise minimizing strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours.
If physical activity is necessary, it should be done during cooler times of the day, such as early morning or late afternoon.

Residents are encouraged to monitor for signs of dehydration and heat-related conditions. Symptoms such as extreme thirst, severe dizziness, vomiting, or headaches warrant immediate hydration and rest in a cool environment.
Pagasa has indicated that elevated heat indices are likely to continue throughout the ongoing dry season. The Department of Health (DOH) has also reinforced the importance of staying hydrated and limiting sun exposure.
