Eastern Samar reported minor structural damage following a magnitude 6 earthquake that struck off the coast of San Julian on May 4. The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) released a report detailing the impacts across various towns.

Immediate inspections were conducted on government buildings, schools, and health facilities to assess damage and maintain public safety amid aftershocks.

PDRRMO chief Thomas Campomanes noted that Dolores town experienced cracks in two government buildings. Hernani reported similar damage, with cracks observed in the municipal administration building and other facilities.

Extent of Damage

In San Julian, the earthquake's epicenter, damage was reported in the municipal building, Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Church, and multiple residential structures. In Borongan City, several public infrastructure sites, including City Hall and various barangay halls, sustained minor cracks.

Reports from Maslog indicated cracks in the municipal building and health unit, while Sulat noted damage to bridges and the municipal gym.

Authorities confirmed three injuries related to the quake, including a head injury in Dolores and a finger injury in Llorente.

The Eastern Samar Provincial Hospital underwent an inspection revealing hairline cracks, raising concerns about its structural integrity. Continuous monitoring will ensure the hospital's safe operation as aftershocks persist.

Additionally, road damage was reported in Las Navas due to soil erosion linked to the earthquake and recent heavy rains, though one lane remains passable.

Continuous monitoring is underway, particularly due to aftershocks, to determine if further interventions are needed to ensure the hospital’s safe operation.
