The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has issued a ban on flights over Mayon Volcano due to its ongoing eruptive activity. The restriction applies to aircraft operating from the surface up to 11,000 feet within a six-kilometer radius of the volcano.

This Notice to Airmen was released following significant ashfall affecting several towns in Albay. The eruptions have resulted in continuous pyroclastic density currents, increasing the potential risks to aviation.

CAAP explained that volcanic ash and airborne particles can severely impact aircraft engines and navigation systems, posing a serious threat to flight safety.

All airline operators and aviation personnel are urged to coordinate with Air Traffic Services and stay updated on the situation before conducting flights in the affected regions.

The agency is actively monitoring Mayon Volcano in collaboration with relevant government entities to ensure the safety of air navigation.

Impact on Local Communities

In addition to the aviation restrictions, local communities have been facing challenges due to heavy ashfall. Authorities are working to address the needs of residents impacted by the volcanic activity.
