Motorists in Mactan should brace for significant traffic delays from May 6 to May 8 due to the 48th Asean Leaders’ Summit. The event is expected to disrupt normal traffic patterns, particularly during peak hours.
Traffic advisories indicate that disruptions will primarily occur between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., coinciding with convoy movements and heightened security measures near the Mactan Newtown area, the summit venue.
Traffic Management Measures
The City Traffic Management System (CTMS) has warned of potential delays along key roads in Barangays Ibo, Buaya, Mactan, Punta Engaño, and Marigondon. Motorists are encouraged to leave earlier and plan alternative routes.
Those traveling to and from Mactan-Cebu International Airport, as well as to Mandaue City and Cebu City, should consider using less congested interior roads. The Angasil Access Road is highlighted as a viable alternative for those heading to Olango Island.
Road Closures Only During Convoys
Authorities clarified that road closures will not be in effect all day. Nagiel Bañacia, head of the Lapu-Lapu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, stated that roads will reopen immediately after convoys pass.
