During his 2026 State of the Province Address in San Fernando City, La Union, Governor Mario Eduardo Ortega emphasized the necessity of unity in advancing the province's development.

Ortega's address was themed “La Union, Agkaysa (unity)” and followed President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s recent State of the Nation Address, which acknowledged the national government's contributions to local progress.

He praised the Marcos administration for its substantial support, focusing on infrastructure and economic initiatives that have positively impacted the lives of La Union residents.

Key Areas of Development

The governor outlined the province's achievements and future plans across five critical sectors:

  • Economic development
  • Social services
  • Infrastructure improvements
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Institutional advancements

Among the notable accomplishments, Ortega reported improved healthcare services benefiting approximately 190,000 patients and expanded financial assistance for over 13,000 beneficiaries.

The governor also highlighted support for more than 4,000 scholars, enhancements to provincial and farm-to-market roads, and initiatives to bolster disaster preparedness and environmental programs.

Looking ahead, Ortega presented major upcoming projects, including the La Union Health Hub, San Fernando International Seaport, TPLEX Extension, Bungol Demonstration Farm, and the San Juan Tourism Complex.

He further emphasized the province's commitment to transparency and civic engagement, stating, “Development cannot be measured by numbers alone. Its true value is seen in the quality of services, the opportunities created and the improvement in people's lives.” Under the banner of “La Union, Agkaysa,” Ortega called for continued collaboration among local government units, national agencies, and communities to navigate the road ahead.
