This special election will fill the vacant congressional seat of Batanes after the passing of incumbent Rep. Ciriaco Gato Jr.

Four candidates are competing for the position, including Luis Andres Abad, the son of former Budget Secretary Florencio Abad, and former lawmaker Henedina Razon-Abad.

Additionally, the Comelec has confirmed that 13,138 official ballots for the election have been printed as of October 21.
