Current projections indicate an available capacity of 2,504 megawatts (MW), only slightly exceeding the anticipated peak demand of 2,358 MW by 146 MW.

The situation is compounded by additional outages; eight plants have not operated since May, and several others have been offline for months or even years.

Currently, approximately 1,030.5 MW of generation capacity is unavailable due to these outages and reduced capabilities of 16 operating units.

This yellow alert underscores the fragile state of the Visayas power system, particularly during peak demand periods.

Energy stakeholders stress the urgent need for enhanced generation capacity and improved reliability of existing plants to prevent tighter supply conditions that could lead to more severe alerts.

As of Thursday morning, no rotational power interruptions had been announced, but the situation remains closely monitored.
