- Sibolution: Transforming industrial waste into alternative raw materials
The RHA BioSilx team, led by Engr. Glenn Ruel Maujon, has developed a method to extract silica from rice husk ash, a common agricultural byproduct. This innovative approach could revolutionize construction materials by providing a sustainable source for cement production.
Meanwhile, the Sibolution team, led by Engr. Harvey De Melendrez, aims to repurpose various industrial byproducts like coconut husks and mining waste into viable construction materials. Their work emphasizes viewing waste as a resource rather than a problem.
Both teams faced tight deadlines, with applications submitted just hours before the cutoff. Their quick responses were critical in securing their spots among the top nine finalists from over 140 entries.

The success of these projects not only showcases the talents of Filipino students but also highlights the potential for local innovations to make a global impact. Engr. Maujon expressed hope that increased funding for research in the Philippines could lead to significant advancements.
