A Shift in Verification Purpose
The revamped Facebook Verified program requires users to submit a short video selfie for identity confirmation. Unlike the previous system, which primarily served celebrities and public figures, this free badge is intended for all users wishing to verify their identity.
To qualify, applicants must be at least 18 years old, maintain an account in good standing, and comply with Meta's integrity standards.
The larger challenge is helping users distinguish real people from fake accounts, impersonators, and AI-generated identities.
