The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) and the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) are hosting an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on child safety concerns related to the popular online game, Roblox.

Scheduled for May 6 at 4 PM, this session aims to address the growing worries about how children interact within this platform.

Roblox, with its vast user base of young players, presents unique challenges regarding online safety. While it allows children to create and explore virtual worlds, it also exposes them to potential dangers such as inappropriate content and online predators.

In the Philippines, authorities have raised alarms about the exploitation of Roblox by malicious users. The Philippine National Police's Anti-Cybercrime Group has highlighted connections between online activities on gaming platforms and real-world violence, including incidents of grooming and radicalization.

Concerns and Measures

Child welfare advocates stress that the risks extend beyond immediate threats. Factors like algorithmic exposure and inadequate monitoring make it difficult for parents to ensure their children's safety online.

Roblox has implemented various safety features, such as enhanced chat filters and parental controls, but critics argue these measures may fall short.

The AMA will feature insights from CICC Undersecretaries Aboy Paraiso and Angelo Tapales, who will discuss current safety measures and what more can be done to protect children.

How to Participate

To join the AMA, participants need to download the Rappler app—available on both iOS and Android—and create a free account.

Once registered, they can access the Community tab, join the Front Page chat room, and submit their questions during the live session.

The discussion will be streamed live on Rappler's website and YouTube channel.

This is an important opportunity for parents and guardians to engage with experts about the safety of their children online.
