In an innovative blend of urban planning and gaming, Filipino student Marc-Ace "Sora" Edu has launched a new strategy game called Network Overreach. This project allows players to manage their own telecommunications company, expanding their influence within a competitive framework.

From Architecture to Game Development

Originally an architecture student at the College of Innovation and Integrated Technology (CIIT), Sora developed a love for urban development. However, by his third year, he realized that his true passion lay in game development.

"At first, it was very foreign to me because I’m used to drawing. I’m used to pen and ink. And now, I’m coding," said Sora.

After switching to Entertainment and Multimedia Computing, Sora found his footing in a field that allows him to merge creativity with technology.

Ambition Behind Network Overreach

Network Overreach started as a passion project among Sora and his friends. The game aims to tap into the growing interest in telecommunications and engage players in strategic decision-making.

  • Players will build cell towers and networks.
  • The game incorporates social interactions to expand territorial control.

Sora's ambition extends beyond this game. He aspires to elevate the Philippine gaming industry, showcasing local talent and creativity on a global stage.

Balancing Life and Passion

As a working student, Sora juggles his responsibilities by funding his education and game development. His personal experiences, including the loss of his mother to cancer, motivate him to pursue his dreams.

"My drive is different. I get reminded that I am doing it for someone that’s not here. I want everyone to know to do it with passion, do it with love," he shared.

With the support of his team at Replay Value, which includes Gabriel Barrientos, Juliana Rae Caguingin, Charles Kimberly Salarzon, and Mark Vincent Yap, Sora is determined to make his mark in the indie gaming landscape.
