Apple is set to release its M6 chip in 2026, opting not to introduce Pro and Max versions. Instead, the tech giant will concentrate on the M7 series, expected to roll out in 2027.

New Developments in Apple's Chip Strategy

The M6 chip will feature a 12-core GPU and a neural engine designed for improved AI performance. It boasts a memory bandwidth of 200Gbps, significantly higher than the previous M5's 153Gbps.

Apple is reportedly focusing more on the M7 series, which is slated to launch in 2027.

The M6 is anticipated to power entry-level Macs including the MacBook Pro and iMac, as well as the iPad Pro and potentially the iPad Air.

  • M6 features a 12-core GPU
  • Enhanced memory bandwidth of 200Gbps
  • Focus on M7 series for AI development

The M7 series will consist of multiple variants, including a base model with a memory bandwidth of around 240Gbps. This focus on on-device AI processing aligns with industry trends prioritizing advanced machine learning capabilities.

Interestingly, the highly anticipated M5 Ultra has faced delays due to supply and cost issues, pushing its release further back.
