Ian Paul "Assassin" Abne's unbeaten streak ended on May 9 after he lost to DianXing Zhu in a unanimous decision at the Cebu Coliseum. This fight, part of the "Fist of Fury 10" event, served as an IBF world title eliminator.
Abne's performance was marked by two knockdowns and a significant cut above his left eyebrow, which affected his performance in the later rounds. However, he demonstrated perseverance, landing powerful combinations that visibly affected Zhu.
Judges scored the fight in favor of Zhu, with scores of 115-111, 114-112, and 116-110. This victory earned Zhu a mandatory title shot at current IBF world minimumweight champion Pedro Taduran.
Following the loss, Abne's record stands at 12 wins, 1 loss, and 2 draws, while Zhu improved to 17 wins and 1 loss.
Coaches Remain Optimistic About Future Fights
Despite the defeat, Abne is still ranked 4th in the IBF minimumweight division. His trainer, Fernando Ocon, believes that the experience gained from this fight will benefit Abne in the long run.
