The investigation into the tragic drowning deaths of two Ateneo de Manila University basketball players remains in its early stages, with authorities yet to determine the liability of former head coach Tab Baldwin.

Baldwin arrived at the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) headquarters on Friday to assist with the ongoing inquiry into the incident that claimed the lives of Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili.

During a press briefing, Justice Secretary Jonvic Remulla stated, "Not yet. Wait until the full report," when asked about any potential violations committed by Baldwin.

Details of the Incident

The two players drowned during a team-building activity at a beach resort in Dipaculao, Aurora, on June 8. They were reportedly swept away by strong waves.

Baldwin was subpoenaed for a second time after missing an initial appearance. He is being asked to provide insights on the events leading up to the drownings, as well as drone footage of rescue efforts.

The drone footage was very short. Parang two minutes lang after the fact. We’re still researching kung may footage sila of the event itself. So far, walang lumalabas.

According to reports, Baldwin attempted to operate a drone during the rescue, but it malfunctioned. An assistant coach was involved in retrieving the drone.

Baldwin's Response and Resignation

Following the incident, Baldwin expressed his sorrow over the players' deaths and subsequently resigned from his coaching position. His role as head coach placed him in a position of significant responsibility.

Remulla emphasized the importance of Baldwin's testimony, noting that he was the primary decision-maker in the program.
