Bea Quiambao continued her impressive triathlon streak by winning the inaugural IRONMAN 5150 Camiguin on Sunday. This victory comes just two months after she triumphed at the IRONMAN 70.3 Davao.
Quiambao's winning time of 2 hours, 44 minutes, and 16 seconds placed her at the top of both the overall and Filipino Elite categories.
The race, organized by Sunrise Events, Inc., was marked by unpredictable weather, transitioning from heavy rain to sunny conditions with strong winds.
Kenneth Bonda won the men's event with a time of 2:19:59, outpacing John Hamlan, who finished in 2:31:52.
Quiambao's performance highlighted her dominance across different race formats. She excelled in all three segments of the race, starting with a strong swim, followed by an impressive bike segment, and finishing with a steady run.
The scenic backdrop of Camiguin, known for its volcanoes and natural beauty, provided a unique experience for the athletes. Quiambao expressed her appreciation for the stunning views during the race.
"It was a really nice experience because I could see the coral underwater, and then it was really windy," said Quiambao.
Bonda echoed similar sentiments, noting the vibrant atmosphere and crowd support that fueled his performance. Despite limited training, he was pleased with his victory.
The event attracted athletes from 15 countries, showcasing Camiguin as a potential hub for international triathlon competitions.
Quiambao aims to continue her winning streak at the upcoming IRONMAN event in Subic next month.
The race also featured various age-group winners, emphasizing the competitive spirit among participants.
With this successful event, the Philippines is positioning itself as a key destination for endurance sports, backed by support from the Philippine Sports Commission and other agencies.
