Filipino tennis star Alexandra Eala received accolades from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. following her first victory at the 2026 Canadian Open on August 6, 2026.
In a briefing at Malacañang, press officer Claire Castro conveyed the president's message, stating, “The success of our fellow Filipino Alex Eala is a success for every Filipino.” Eala triumphed over American player Alycia Parks with a score of 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 in a match held at Sobeys Stadium in Toronto.

After her hard-fought match, Eala expressed gratitude towards the Filipino crowd, encouraging them to wave their flags. She acknowledged their unwavering support, despite reminders from the chair umpire to keep the noise down.

Eala's victory comes just days after she captured her first Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour title, showcasing her rapid rise in the sport.
