Noah Lyles, the 29-year-old American sprinter and reigning Olympic men's 100-meter champion, has announced the conclusion of his 2026 season, citing injury flare-ups that prevent him from competing in the upcoming World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest.
Injury Leads to Season Conclusion
Unfortunately, I come with some not great news. Me and my coach have decided that we're going to end my 2026 season.

- Lyles won the 100m at the US Track and Field Championships in July with a time of 9.79 seconds.
- He is a four-time world champion in the 200m and claimed the 100m title in Budapest in 2023.
Lyles had high hopes for Budapest after a strong performance in July. However, a minor strain discovered post-race complicated his recovery. Despite initial optimism, it led to further complications.
He expressed in an Instagram post that continuing to compete would be unfeasible, stating, "Unfortunately, because of the strain, it did cause some other things to flare up."
Though he won't race, Lyles plans to attend the event to support fellow athletes. "I still do have a party to throw and things to do behind the scenes to help support the athletes," he stated.
Looking ahead, Lyles is already focusing on the next competitive cycles, aiming for significant performances in 2027 and 2028, which include the upcoming World Championships in Beijing and the Los Angeles Olympics.
