Filipino tennis sensation Alex Eala will kick off her Birmingham Open campaign against Priscilla Hon of Australia. The match is set for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, Manila time, at the Edgbaston Priory Club.
A Competitive Rivalry
This matchup marks the third encounter between Eala and Hon. In their previous meetings, Hon emerged victorious in 2023 during the Roehampton qualifying round. However, Eala turned the tables in 2024, winning their qualifying clash in Ningbo, China.
Currently, Hon holds a WTA ranking of No. 135, with a peak ranking of No. 94. Her recent performance includes reaching the third round of the 2025 US Open and the second round of the 2026 Australian Open.
Doubles Challenge Ahead
In addition to her singles match, Eala will partner with Czech player Nikola Bartunkova in the doubles event. They will face a tough challenge against the second-seeded duo of Harriet Dart and Maia Lumsden from England at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 1, Manila time.
Upcoming Partnership with Venus Williams
Looking ahead, Eala is also set to team up with tennis legend Venus Williams at the Bad Homburg Open from June 21 to 27 in Germany. This partnership was announced by the Tennis Channel, which highlighted that both players received wild card entries for the doubles competition.
Fans are particularly excited as this marks Eala's first official collaboration with Williams, a former world No. 1. Interestingly, Eala has previously faced Williams during a doubles match at the ASB Classic in Auckland earlier this year, where she and partner Iva Jovic triumphed.
