Chris Tiu, the former captain of the Ateneo Blue Eagles basketball team, reached out to the team with support following a tragic incident that led to the deaths of two student-athletes.
Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili lost their lives during a team-building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora, on June 8. Tiu's message came during the third edition of Be Juan Tama Talks.
A Message of Solidarity
My message to the Ateneo players is to stay strong and know that we are with you and I've been praying for you guys.
Chris Tiu, Former Ateneo Blue Eagles Captain
In a video statement aired on 'Fast Talk With Boy Abunda,' Tiu emphasized the importance of support during such difficult times.
The aftermath of the incident has seen significant repercussions for the Ateneo basketball program. Head coach Tab Baldwin and team manager Epok Quipo resigned from their positions.
Baldwin has since appeared before the National Bureau of Investigation as part of the ongoing inquiry into the incident.
The community continues to mourn, with Baterbonia's funeral scheduled for Wednesday. Adili's remains have been repatriated to Nigeria, while Baterbonia's have returned to Agusan del Sur.
