Central Visayas is leading the medal tally at the 2026 Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) National Games in Bacolod City.
As of May 12, the region has secured 37 gold medals, 16 silver medals, and six bronze medals.
The host region, Region 6, ranks second with 20 golds, while Negros Island Region follows in third with 13 gold medals.
In the weightlifting competition, Central Visayas excelled, supported by Olympian coaches Ramon Solis and Christopher Bureros.
University of Cebu (UC) athletes Althea and Albe May Ella Bacaro, Rhianna Cabalida, and Jea Mae Palagtiw dominated their categories, winning gold medals.
The Bacaro sisters triumphed in the 46-kilogram and 49-kilogram divisions, while Cabalida and Palagtiw topped the 69-kilogram and 69+ kilogram categories, respectively.
In track and field, Michelle Zamora of the University of San Carlos (USC) showcased her talent by winning three gold medals.
Zamora defended her titles in the women’s 3,000-meter, 5,000-meter, and 1,500-meter runs, matching the feats of her former teammate.
Teammates Justin Dela Cruz and Brandon Aquino contributed additional medals, with Dela Cruz earning silver in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase and Aquino taking bronze in the men’s 110m hurdles.
Central Luzon and Region V also remain competitive, with Central Luzon claiming 8 golds and Region V securing 12.
As the games continue, Central Visayas is poised for further success across various sports.
