The Cebu Greats pulled off a remarkable upset by defeating the defending champions, the Abra Solid North Weavers, 74-70, on Monday night at the Ynares Center Montalban.

A Climactic Finish

With just seconds left on the clock, Kent Ariar hit a crucial jumper and converted two free throws, securing the Greats' victory and ending Abra's remarkable 19-game win streak.

This was one of our best games this season, and we showed what we can do as a team in tough situations.

Mark Meneses, Cebu Greats Player

Cebu's Mark Meneses delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 26 points along with 14 rebounds, earning him the Best Player accolade.

  • Kent Ariar: 8 points, 2 rebounds
  • Dhon Reverente: 16 points, 4 rebounds

Despite a strong showing from Abra, particularly from Dave Ildefonso, who led with 20 points and 11 rebounds, the Greats' late-game execution proved decisive.

Cebu now improves to 19-5, maintaining their position in the South Division, while Abra holds the top spot in the North Division with a record of 21-2.

The Greats' victory reflects a significant shift in the MPBL dynamics, emphasizing the increasing competitiveness of the league as teams vie for playoff positions.
